Core needle biopsy

A core needle biopsy involves removing small samples of breast tissue using a hollow needle. Typically, three to six seperate needle insertions are required in order to obtain a sufficient sample of breast tissue.

Core needle biopsy allows a more accurate diagnosis than fine needle aspiration since it removes a larger sample of tissue. However, the procedure takes longer than FNA, requiring multiple needle insertions and the results take longer.
