The University of East Anglia is a short taxi or bus ride from the Railway station, Bus station or Airport. On arrival at UEA you can collect your room key from the conference office.

Arrival by air

Norwich airport connects to Amsterdam, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Manchester and is a fifteen minute taxi ride from the University. Stansted airport is about two hours away by coach or by train. Heathrow has a coach service that runs, via Stansted, to UEA. Both Heathrow and Gatwick are reachable by train via London. Details on Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports are available from BAA. Usually the best advice for long haul visitors is to route via Schipol, Amsterdam because the additional cost is minimal but the hassle is considerably reduced. For European visitors it is often better to fly cheaply to Stansted and then drive, catch the bus (uncomfortable but direct to Norwich) or train (have to change at Ely). Top tip: KLM UK often have special deals into Norwich.

Arrival by train

Anglia Railways and Central trains run trains into Norwich. You can plan your journey from any UK destination using the National Rail journey planner. The journey time from London is 1 hour 30 minutes on the fast trains that run early morning and early evening and 2 hours at other times. Traintaxi gives details of taxis at UK rail stations. The London trains run from Liverpool Street station. Top tip: order breakfast in the restaurant car.

Arrival by coach

This is the cheapest way to arrive but also the most squalid. Coaches terminate at Norwich bus station which is in the city centre. To get to UEA you will need a taxi (taxi rank outside the bus station) or a bus. Top tip: unless you are coming from Stansted or are a tough midget the coach is not recommended.

Arrival by Car

UEA is signposted off the A47 ringroad that runs round the south side of Norwich. Take the B1108 turn off in the Norwich direction marked "Colney" and "University". Drive past the hospital turn off. UEA is the first turning on the right after entering the City of Norwich. As you come down University drive you pass the University sport centre on your left. Now pick up the right-hand lane and ask the Porters for directions to the Conference Office. Top tip: even if you are coming from the North it is usually quicker to come up the A11.

Travel within Norwich

Minicabs must be booked in advance (some well-known companies are ABC, Bestway, Goldstar, Fivestar, Kestral and Loyal. Phone numbers for these are available from Scoot or Yellow Pages) or you can hail a hackney cab. There are usually plenty of hackney cabs at the Rail station or outside City Hall. Norwich buses are operated by First Bus and are pretty universally disliked. Direct routes to the University are numbers 25, 26 and 27. The number 25 runs from the rail station every 15 minutes and runs 24 hours a day. The 26 and 27 leave from Castle Meadow and St Stephen's Street. Top tip: take a cab.
